Programmes

Programmes at Brighton Montessori River Valley

For children aged 18 months to 6 years. Full-day programmes, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM.

Bilingual programme. Lessons in English and Mandarin with native speakers.

Enrichment programme. Intensive Chinese Immersion Programme (ICIP) and Kidz Fun Discovery Programme (KFDP).

A gentle first step into learning through the five senses. Toddlers explore early phonics, numeracy and practical-life activities such as pouring, scooping and threading, alongside music, art, outdoor play and daily Mandarin with native-speaking teachers.

About Pre-Nursery & Playgroup

As curiosity about the world grows, hands-on materials such as sandpaper letters and number rods build early phonics, pre-writing and number skills, while cultural themes, festival weeks, daily movement and Mandarin widen each child’s experiences.

About Nursery 1

Building on Nursery 1, children begin word-building with the Moveable Alphabet, add and subtract with concrete materials, and grow in confidence through Brighton Talk and Show and Tell, alongside cultural studies, the arts and daily Mandarin.

About Nursery 2

Children grow into more independent learners, blending sounds to read and write in English and Mandarin, and exploring place value with the Golden Beads and Strip Board. Geography and simple science experiments broaden their view of the world.

About Kindergarten 1

Also known as the P1 preparatory class, Kindergarten 2 prepares children for formal schooling the following year. Comprehension and creative writing, problem-solving with money, time and measurement, and Hanyu Pinyin in Mandarin build on the hands-on Montessori approach.

The Brighton Montessori way

Montessori In Practice

Montessori is not simply a collection of classroom materials. It is an approach to how children interact with their environment, make choices, practise skills and gradually build independence.

How it works

A place prepared for them

Child-sized, ordered environments help children take part more independently, with freedom within clear limits.

Learning through their hands

Purposeful materials make ideas tangible, from concrete towards abstract.

Time to practise

Children return to meaningful activities, building skill and confidence at a pace that suits them.

A guide alongside them

Educators observe, offer guidance and introduce appropriate next steps.

Five areas of learning

What does Montessori learning look like?

Practical Life

Everyday activities like pouring water from a jug, spooning pasta or buttoning are introduced to your child, developing his / her gross and fine motor skills, confidence, focus and self-control as well as key social skills.
